ANOTHER HURRICANE


PARQUE LAZARO CÁRDENAS – SÁBADO

Sandra, a category three hurricane,  had been forecast for Thanksgiving, but only a drizzly rain arrived.  More drizzle on Friday, but temperatures hovered slightly above eighty degrees and it was humid.  Saturday was gray and warm and a perfect day to visit the weekly market at Lazaro Cárdenas Park and pick up tickets across the street at Daiquiri Dick´s for the Pet Picnic next week.

ROPA BLANCA DE LARA – PARQUE LAZARO CÁRDENAS – SÁBADO

The market is great for wonderful produce, food items, clothing (am partial to Lara´s white cotton and linen pieces and Zoe´s adorable girls´dresses and straw hats) and handicrafts.   I love the whimisical stuffed wool animals and embroidered clothing from Chiapas, 

TRES HERMOSAS HERMANAS DE CHIAPAS – PARQUE LAZARO CÁRDENAS

and the beautiful handmade brooms and brushes in all sizes by Jean Hnytka of Escobas Artesanales de Mexico. Gepetto´s is the homemade cat and dog food that I´m tempted to feed to my husband because it looks so good and sounds and is so healthy.  Our dogs and cats are crazy for it.

HUATULCO, OAXACA

STERILIZATIONS:  Our vet team, Pets for Life, is still in Oaxaca, specifically Huatulco. I spoke with Leslie, our vet tech and education director, who said they are doing great work – 200 animals a week. 
 

CLÍNICA GRATIS DE CALLE CERO EN JUAREZ, MÉXICO

Paulina Stettner, former director of PEACEAnimals,  and now director of Calle Cero, posted photos of their free clinic in Ciudad Juarez.  Calle Cero is a free spay/neuter program headquartered in Guadalajara.  Last summer, my husband and I went to their very successful national program launch in Tlacquepaque, followed by Mexico City several weeks later.  The most recent one took place in Ciudad Juarez.  Hundreds of cats and dogs were sterilized in each of these three locations.

Due to non-sterilization and a lack of education, there are thousands of homeless cats and dogs living on the streets in Puerto Vallarta.  There are many hundreds waiting to be adopted in foster homes,  sanctuaries and the Centro de Acopio.   If you can foster an animal, have found a cat or dog, or would like to adopt a cat or dog, Please check our website on the “resource” tab for names and contacts of refuges, vets, etc.

BEACHES – BOCA NEGRA VS. PUNTA NEGRA:  Last week was a slip of the lip and when a reference was made to the long stretch of beach as “Boca Negra.” The great swimming and body surfing beach is Punta Negra.  I made the correction right away on the FaceBook blog, but the version that went out on MailChimp could not be corrected.  Sorry!

SCHEDULE/HORARIO:

December 2-5 – San Pancho, Nay. (Pets for Life) Casa de la tercera edad  is the location for this clinic.
December 9-12 – San Blas, Nay. (Pets for Life)
December 16 – Colonia Coapinole, Puerto Vallarta (Demonio Blanco) Francisco Madero # 569
Take Francisco Villa north, passing the church in Pitillal.  Drive straight until reaching the cross street of 16 de septiembre.  No street sign, but landmark is a yellow, orange and navy blue restaurant called “La Hamburguesa.”  Turn right and continue up hill.  At top of street is calle Guerrero.  Continue one more block until you reach calle Francisco Madero. A lime green two-story building will be on your left. Turn left.  Continue 1 1/2 blocks on this paved road until it becomes a dirt road.  Clinic will be on the left hand side of the road in an orange house.

Driving north on Hwy 200, pass exit for Pie in the Sky (on right) and Hotel de Cameron (left)  At the next traffic light (Famar’s Restaurant and Santander Bank on right) – exit on the lateral.
Continue North 2 blocks to Estadios, turn right.  Drive one block to Francisco Villa, turn left.  Drive two blocks to Pipila, turn right.
Drive one block to Matamoros, turn left – in one block you’ll see the Community Center

Harold Sokolove and other locals are raising funds for this clinic.

Please consider bringing lunches for our vet team to the clinics. If you can do this, please advise so we can create a lunch schedule. By having lunches donated, these savings can used for purchases of supplies and medicines.
