PLAYA LOS MUERTOS – PUESTA DEL SOL – SUNSET
Christine Vincent, a PEACEAnimals volunteer from several years ago and who now resides in Austin, Texas, was celebrating her birthday in Puerto Vallarta. Friends were invited to Langostinos restaurant on los muertos beach for drinks and mariachis at sunset on Friday. Every chair and table on the beach that evening was filled with nationals and northerners. I´ve never seen the town look busier than it is now.
PLAYA LOS MUERTOS – EN FRENTE DEL RESTAURANTE LANGOSTINOS
Musicians walked across the sand asking who would like to have a favorite song played, pretty young women sold plump roses and young children gave their brightest smiles as they tried to sell candies, gum and small, handmade cotton dolls. The moon was not yet in sight, but under the star-scattered sky, palms curved langorously towards the white wave-crested shoreline and pangas and fishing boats glowed palely in the light thrown out by the sail-shaped, multi-colored modern pier.
CUMPLEAÑOS DE CHRISTINE VINCENT – PLAYA LOS MUERTOS
Christine had hired “Internacional,” a ten-piece (nine men and one woman) mariachi band, to play for an hour, and they were terrific. Dressed in black charro outfits, they sang and played ranchera music and romantic ballads. I think no country in the world has more beautiful love songs than Mexico… so much longing and tenderness and often some sweet suffering over love!
The clinic for the surgery week of January 4 had originally been scheduled for the Puerto de Luna hotel, which is in the hotel zone and pet friendly. The clinic was cancelled by the owner on January 3, so there was a bit of a last-minute scramble for a new location. As I was out of town, Frank Ohly, our star volunteer, sent me a few photos.

Alex, who has a small collection of ferrets and hedgehogs, has donated overnights at both of his río cuale hotels to the PEACEAnimals on-line auction.
